I was requested to reset my Virgin.net email to an alternative site. I dont have a Virgin Media Account.
I reset it to my Gmail.com account.
I received the initial Verification Code at the Gmail account.
I then received a confirmation my Password had been reset.
I tried signing in & the Password was not recognised.
I tried the Forgotten Password by email address & it wont send it through to my Gmail address "OOPS SOMETHING WENT WRONG PLEASE TRY LATER" is the message I have been getting for 36 hours?
Any Ideas?

If you are a virgin.net user, but not a current VM broadband customer, your mailbox is at risk of being deleted.
Some virgin.net users have been getting a 30 day notification that their mailbox will be deleted. Have you received anything like that within the last month? Some virgin.net users have also reported mailboxes being deleted without warning as VM is running a big clear out of mailboxes which are not associated with a VM broadband account.

Well, if you have set your Gmail account as the "alternative site" that would suggest you changed the username of your VM email account to your Gmail address.
In that case you need to enter your Gmail address (not your virgin.net email address) as the username when signing into your virgin.net email account. That should get you into your virgin.net account.
Did you enter your Gmail address and VM password when attempting to sign into your VM account?
However, be aware of what Goslow has posted about the fact that VM are closing down Vm email accounts that are not linked to a Virgin Media account.

Hey rich32, thank you for reaching out and I am sorry to hear you are having an email issues, also a warm welcome to the community.
As mentioned Virgin.Net emails will be closed unless you have an active service with us.
If you don’t have an active Broadband service with us, then we are very sorry, we can no longer support your email, as per our Terms & Conditions. You need to seek an alternative email provider. New email accounts can be set up in minutes, with providers such as Gmail, Outlook, iCloud. We highly recommend you forward any important emails from your Virgin account to your new inbox
