Old NTL email address compromised

I had a virgin media account which was closed in 2019 when we moved to a small village which was not connected to VM both my wife and I had old NTL world email addresses  we have not used for years, but my wife keeps getting emails from Virgin Media saying urgent action needed we have received 26 complaints about this email address containing viruses please contact VM immediately urgent action required. but we haven’t used these email addresses for years can they be closed down.
