Email forwarding not working

JohnOrrett

Hi, I have set up forwarding on my VM email account via webmail. I have the 'auto forwarding is active', the forward to address is in it's correct place, but most emails aren't being pushed through. A couple have, but for instance, I have 10 in my VM inbox, none of which have been forwarded. I can understand that a couple may be picked up by spam filters (even though they're not). They are not in any folder in the receiving email.

Not sure whether the issue is with VM forwarding the emails, or the receiving provider not getting them.

Any way to check?

Many thanks, John

Consider temporarily disabling the auto-forward and instead using the following filter rule to provide a visual indicator of forwarding, i.e. if its flag is set in webmail then the rule ran against it:

Many thanks for the response.

I have configured the rule, and will see how it goes. Ironically, my email notification about a response ended up in my VM webmail Spam folder 😂

Yes, that's been a problem for a while. It seems that Khoros, who provide the Forum software for VM, made some recent changes which result in emails from the forum being flagged by VM (and other email providers) as spam, It would seem that VM have taken this up with Khoros.

Hi coenoby, thanks for the heads up. Forwarding still not working properly. I access 2 email accounts on webmail, my old blueyonder and newer VM emails. I'm not sure if the rule suggested would pick up emails coming into webmail for the 2 email addresses?

One other thing which came to mind - I can also access my emails via Outlook and Android, and not sure if they are read there before reading in email, then it won't process it unless it was read first in webmail. It would appear that the Blueyonder emails are being forwarded, but not any to my VM email address. I know that forwarding works fine from another non VM email account and is received successfully by the new email client.

Thanks, John

You need to set that rule up in each Webmail account. So presumably both the Blueyonder and also the VM email webmail accounts.

No it does not matter whether it is read in webmail or not. The auto-forwarding should automatically forward the email as soon as it hits your VM or Blueyonder mailbox. It does not need to be opened it the webmail account first.

"It would appear that the Blueyonder emails are being forwarded, but not any to my VM email address."

So it seems that you are saying the the problem is just with your VM email account. In that case have you checked that you are able to send emails from that VM email account? If something is stopping it sending any emails then it will not be able to forward the emails.

I'd suggest that you try to manually forward one of the VM emails that has not been forwarded from the account and confirm that it gets sent to the email account set in the autoforward box.

Many thanks again for the support; much appreciated. It is mainly the BY email that I want forwarding. This email receives a lot of spam, and I want it forwarded to my new email client which has the ability to report phishing without using MxToolbox etc.

Thanks also for confirmation that it doesn't matter whether the email has been opened elsewhere before being forwarded.
