Closed account still forwarding mail

I left Virgin Media around 15 months ago and no longer have access to email account. However it still appears to be active and is continuing to forward emails to my current email account.  Please could you advise me how I can get the account closed to stop the an endless number of unwanted spam and phishing mail being redirected.
