Eurosport Close

Good afternoon all, have also sent a message to Virgin via Watsap and await response. I appreciate it's not anything to do with Virgin Media, but am disappointed to read that Eurosport is closing in the UK and being swallowed into TNT Sports. I upgraded my package some years back to include the Eurosport channels as I watch all their cycling content. Eurosport is one of my most used channels. Is there a way I can get TNT sports added to my package on a trial basis to see if they include all the cycling content I am used to? I see on the forum that some other users are maybe being offered this? If this is not possible I might have to consider reducing my TV pack as Eurosport is currently the only sport channel we use for cycling coverage. Many Thanks

  • Hi churcherian,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

Eurosport have made the decision to close the Eurosport channels, this is not a decision made by Virgin Media O2. We're very sorry for any disappointment that may have been caused by this change.

We do however offer TNT Sports as an option to add for Virgin TV customers.

Have you received any emails from us regarding this closure with any information on possible offers for TNT?

If not, I'd be happy to check here for you to see if we have any discounts etc for adding TNT if that's something you'd like to do.

I'll send you a private message now. If you'd like me to take a look at possible TNT offers, please just pop me a reply there 😊

Please look out for the envelope in the top right of the page and pop back to me when you can.

This situation has come about by Warner, that bought and rebranded the BT Sports channels, acquiring the Discovery group that includes Eurosport. It is only the UK & Ireland version of the Eurosport channels that are closing, as Warner does not broadcast TNT in the rest of Europe.

Not quite correct, Discovery acquired WarnerMedia which became Warner Bros Discovery.

Discovery aleady owned Eurosport, it was Discovery that first entered talks with BT Sport.

    Thanks for the explanation.

I have Eurosport in my tv package and it was was good for the tennis coverage such as the USA open, Wimbledon etc.

Most tennis is now on sports channels (except UK tennis which is on BBC) so  it would need a subscription to sports channels, so I am disappointed if it is now removed and think it should be replaced free with TNT sport rather than having to add extras on to my existing bill will is already high.

Is there a date for the removal of Europsport 1 & 2.?

February 28th is the last day. I also ought to point out that Eurosport is, apart from Germany, now a wholesale subscription service everywhere else. And no doubt with the expensive sports rights Warner now has the prices charged to our European neighbours will also increase.

  • I also did not receive any information on the removal of Eurosports and was not informed about it when I recently renewed my package. I only kept with Virgin and my current package after the removal of TNT because of Eurosport.  I understand that Virgin is able to change channels at will, but with both of these sports packages going and no significate reduction in price I feel that I had a significant change to my package and therefore a breach in the contract I entered into.

What compensation are you will to make to keep my custom and to reflect the poor service and communication I have received over this change?

At the end of the day you are paying for a bundle that is subject to external influence. VMs T&Cs that you agreed to as part of your contract state that channel content might change during its duration. Broadcaster agreements are always subject to change, & channels can be added or removed at any time.

When the BT sports channels were added to the full house package at launch, there was not an increase in the price of the bundle until the following year. If VM had put the price up straight away there would have been many complaints. So VM is in a no-win situation. The TNT channels are premium channels, so have a 30 day notice period. Discounted prices are likely to lead to a lock in.
