Cancelling virgin and watching freeview connected to modem

Hi. I would like to cancel my virgin tv phone and internet package as too expensive. I don't have an exterior aerial. Is it possible to connect my, I think smart TV, to a modem and watch Freeview that way? I've managed to connect the TV to the modem but can't figure out how or if I can then watch freeview. Any advice much appreciated.

By modem I take it you mean the VM hub. All VM equipment is effectively rented and will need to be returned to VM when you cancel the service. Freeview is available by an external TV aerial, but most channels are available on the internet. This would need a broadband connection via an ISP, either VM or another provider.

You might very well be better off with another ISP as VM's broadband is rather expensive. Are you near the end of your contract with VM? If so you can give 30 days' notice before the end and leave without penalty.

You'll have to pay for an external aerial, but it's a one-off expense. When budget permits you can buy a Freeview recordable box.
