Virgin box latency

Virgin sent me a box. I trying it during the Euro. Turns out, there's a delay of 20/30 seconds. Every time England is playing, I'm 20s behind and I get spoiled because everybody is screaming.

How do I fix it? Is there a way to do it?

  • There’s no fix for it, it’s because it’s downloaded, you’ll have to watch via Freeview if you can get it.

  • Hi bonelso2 👋 Thank you for your post and welcome to the Virgin Media Community 😀

We're sorry to hear about the problem you've been having and appreciate it must be very annoying when watching the football 😔

Although the Euros have obviously now finished, if you notice this again when watching a live event, please let us know.

    Regards,
    Daniel

The local sales Reps informed me the stream worked the same as BT (EE) TV on multicast hence a delay of around 5 to 7 seconds would be expected. I'm also experiencing 25/30 seconds delay.

What is the officiail answer from Virgin is it multicast?  and should the delay be in teh region of 5 to 7 seconds?

      Thanks Murray

My thoughts are that the delay is because of VMs huge network. Channels are input at the Master Headend near Heathrow Airport. They are then sent out to the 51 separate headend Horizon TV servers, which in turn push the channels out to the Stream boxes. There is certainly not such a delay in the traditional CATV broadcast distribution, which with the BBC/ITV channels is 3 to 5 seconds behind Freeview.
