Lores BBC One only?

Heya,

Have a weird issue here.. our Stream box has been working perfectly until a few days ago when BBC One started displaying in a kind of lores way. It also maybe looks like the frame rate is halved and there is a flicker to the image. My thinking is I'm only being streamed one half of the interlaced signal..?

I've tried a soft reset, a hard reset, checked cabling even though every other channel and streaming app works fine.. just had an engineer around who went through the motions etc and changed the Stream box to another one, but same issue?

So... surely, surely for some reason the BBC One stream being sent solely to my home? is faulty in some way? Are the streams being sent to my IP exclusive to me?!

Very weird anyways... and I'm now at a loss. Engineer said he'd chat to his main 'TV' guy, but I'm pretty tech savvy n this is an odd one...

Any possible insights welcome!!

Have you checked the other BBC One  channels to see if they are the same?

There are additional BBC One streams on channels 861 (London), 862 (Scotland), 863  (Northern Ireland) and 864 (Wales)  There's also possibly another alternative regional variation (only in select locations) on 858.

(There's also an additional BBC2 stream on 865)

Play the same footage from BBC iPlayer to make sure the original film is not at fault.

  • Hey all,

Ok, firstly, thanks for your suggestions. I had checked iPlayer and all was fine there but it was also every programme on BBC One having a problem. So simply the stream itself, not programme specific. This was South London region btw.

And thanks for the suggestion of checking the other BBC channels. I hadn't thought of that, though every other channel above BBC One (101) was fine of what I had checked.

Anyways..... turned on the the Stream box just now and bam, it's working now.. so, not sure if this was escalated and they did something their end? Assuming they def did.. if I find out what they found and fixed I'll report back..

Happy Friday to you all :)

  • Hi stripealipe,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums. ⭐
We're sorry to hear you're having this issue. As mentioned by other users, can you check if this is happening across the other BBC One streams, as well as on iPlayer. Can you also confirm if this is happening across all programmes on the channel, or whether it's on one programme in particular?

Pop back to us with an update.

    Many thanks,

      OK... I'm back....!

So, the problem has shown itself again this morning.. same thing, as if it's only showing half of the interlaced signal. So, this time I've checked the other BBC One HD streams...

      (101) BBC One HD - LoRes!
      (858) BBC One HD - perfect! (this is exactly the same as 101, duplicated?!)
      (861) BBC One HD London - LoRes!
      (862) BBC One Scotland HD - perfect!
Ireland and Wales BBC One HD streams are perfect too..

      So, just us Southerners then!

So, any more ideas before I escalate? Obviously something their end and def not a hardware problem...

      Cheers!

Have the exact same problem as you - BBC One London / BBC One HD the only channel affected. It's came back this morning for me too - tried to contact Virgin the first time but it was so hard to get hold of them I stopped trying!

Hopefully when they fix it this time, it will be a permanent fix. Paying a lot of money for this package, so this is really frustrating!

Plug an aerial into your tv and use Freeview,  you'll get a far better picture than Stream ( and its free!)

It is not a coincidence that channels 101 and 861 are both showing a fault. When 101 and 861 are carrying regional news these channels will be simulcast for London viewers until 101 switches to national programmes. There is clearly a fault somewhere and my strong suspicion is that the Arqiva feed for BBC into the central headend is incorrect. (I'm largely dismissing the possibility of the central headend doing something wrong.)

      Hi All...

Have to chime in on this as having same issue...Recently changed v360 box to flex box...All seemed fine at first now BBC seems low res compared to the other channels...

BBC feed fine when using iplayer though...

I csn only assume some sort of optimization fault with BBC feed this point....

Images to illustrate both TV feed & iplayer feed...

Zoom in on the word Washington, first image is iplayer and nice crisp image...2nd image normal feed/channel 101 looks awful & this is like this with whole picture....

Would like to know if a fix is immenent either via forthcoming update ?...

Bbc 4 also seems to have issue...

Strange it's just BBC channels though...

I've already had to technically downgrade my box from v360 to Fkex box due to suspected signal issues (not the same issue as this one)...

Therefore VM needs to address this ASAP...

      Same BBC only

First imsge channel 101 second image iplayer...

Low res on 101 virgin flex box which i had recently swapped out from v360...

Only seems to be BBC channels showing this fault BBC 4 also shows this image issue...

This is a second post as first one vanished ?
