2gig user game freeze

Hi, I'm on the 2gig package and i have been getting huge freezes during online game play, I will be stuck there frozen for anything like 30 secs+ this happens randomly many times a day, ive seen others are having the same issue, can i have an engineer come out and have a look?

I expected something like this may happen from past experience and decided keep my phone line BT connection, all the same games run perfectly well on the BT connection, this issue is only on VM connection, it happens with all ports and wifi, I've rebooted the router a few times, it always comes back.

I've started a BQM and shall update, however i don't fancy using the connection for gaming until this is solved, Its too much hassle.

The amount of money we pay for this service and this is the quality we get its ridiculous, I don't see anything about huge lag spikes and game freezing in the advertisements!!

  • A new day a new traffic light BQM

It only shows on the BQM as 10% Packet Loss, and a latency spike, but the internet is completely unusable during however long the spike lasts, so a couple minutes of stuck!

If this is the result of speed testing every 30mins, can you please stop it?

I cant wrap my head around why you would want to spam your clients routers every 30mins, WTH! its not useable, i have 2gig broadband that I cannot use, because every 30min it has a bloody fit.

  • I have did a quick test, i played a few games and my game froze up in line with the packet loss and latency spike no matter the game, no matter the device used

Looks like you are the lucky subject of half hourly speed tests by VM.

Let's see if the VM forum team still consider your connection to be "great".

They likely say BQM is not showing correctly and that the connection is fine by their tests.

Or as to why they put modem mode in other hubs and not this one is a lesson

I'm convinced there is no modem mode because it's on the Nexfibre infrastructure, and VM can't manage this directly as they can on the old DOCIS cable?    If only they had terminated the fibre to allow something similar to Openreach's ONT ...

  • You will probably find hourly spikes on the BQM as VM runs annoying speed tests on Xgs-pon connections.

Blame VM for no modem mode

Interesting isn't it VM go to the trouble of router mode only for hub 5x then choose to cause problems with new technology fiber.

My BT connection through old school phone line is only 30/10 but it does provide not only better latency all round (18ms to Amsterdam verses 24ms with VM 2gig, and BT does more hops, go figure)  it also lets me continue to play without huge lags !!!

To answer your silly little question, I pay for a service i am not receiving , isn't this the Virgin Media Forums?

Actually you are receiving the service you are paying for.

The speed is specified in your contract. The latency isn't, unless it's a very unusual contract.
