VIRGIN ON THE RIDICULOUS

What on earth ARE you doing VIRGIN?

Your EMail system is in total disarray!

We have three laptops, all up to date on Windows 11 and all using Outlook to access. Each one is now suddenly treating the connection very differently!  Only one is now working to a virginmedia mail address, so forget it being only a legacy address issue. That one also still currently works to a very busy ntlworld address used for Freeware user contact. The other two have totally differing actions from the same virginmedia address, one now telling me there is unread mail, but not displaying it on Outlook OR online web access.

This does not include one ntlworld connection severed without warning a year ago now, Despite numerous requests, NO help given, NOTHING offered.  This was my wife's account used for extensive volunteer work, inc elderly and disabled people access. Killed stone dead without warning. It took months to get an alternative EMail system working elsewhere as many mail recipients just could not cope with the no warning sudden loss of all comms.

SO, from other posts here and elsewhere numerous people are increasingly experiencing this sort of disaster from VIRGIN.

Well, there IS a next stage if this unhelpful lack of action continues, and that is to go VERY public.

Virgin customers might like to be aware that I have in another location due no cable available have SKY inc SKY EMail.  Its been faultless.

  • After so much predictable trauma with one ISP's tied email service it seems a curious choice to then dive headfirst into another ISP's tied email service. Much better to have portable provision via Gmail or Proton etc.

Thanks for post. Well, firstly, I have not dived headfirst or any other bodily orientation into another tied ISP.  I have run Virgin from NTLWorld days on one location, Sky in another, as there was no cable at location 2.  This for as long as the systems have existed back to dial up.

Its easy to choose and use a new EMail address if you do not have as I do a large number of users of my freeware over forty years plus who may need contact support.

Secondly, a provider taking money to provide should do so, running away helps no-one except lets the provider continue their poor service.

I also have a GMail account, but its the long standing world wide contact Ntlworld and Virginmedia Email addresses I am trying to resolve and preserve as I cannot in any practical way reach all users. Perhaps I should not care, but oddly, I do?

How did you maintain your ntl email when you moved to Sky in a non cabled area? Under VM's (badly enforced) terms it should have been closed then.

Now that VM are actively looking for orphaned email accounts to close, you may be in trouble.

  • Hi BadRaven 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us, apologies for the issues you have had regarding your email access via third party email clients. We were aware of the issues around customers facing this and have been advised as from today it has been fixed. If you can try again for us and confirm if you are able to access your emails or not.

      Hi Sabrina,

      Thanks for contact.

I have had this virginmedia account on more than one laptop set up for years via Outlook to access my virginmedia Email and ONE laptop is still fully working today. I REALLY don't want to put this at risk!

The main issue, still present, is that I cannot set up that account on a NEW replacement Windows 11 Home & Business Office laptop.  Two non Virgin accounts have set up easily and perfectly in Outlook OR online via the browser. My ntlworld account has set up perfectly. Virginmedia Account?  NO.

It WAS refusing to on this new computer to recognise the account name and password before today. (though known correct)

However, NOW after your above mentioned changes its refusing to allow me to set up as its stating I cannot login from a PERSONAL account, I need a BUSINESS or SCHOOL account login to do so, neither of which it was or is!

      SO, no, not working!

BadRaven. I think that those options for personal and business or school accounts refer to the type of subscription you have taken out for MS Office 365.  It isn't anything to do with Virgin Media email settings.

      On our wavelength

I have been trying for days after VM said it was not their issue, you are now suggesting it was a known issue that you alleged to have resolved - it is not resolved

        Hi BadRaven

Thanks for coming back to us.

Can you try this for us to see if it fixes things?

Sign into the My Virgin media account for the email concerned with your VMO2ID
        Select Account Settings
        Select Identity & Security Settings
        Select Manage your products
        Select Manage email app password
Click on the blue button 'Get New Password'
Make a note of the generated password. This is what you use in the mail apps along with the Virgin Media email address as the username.
