Unable to receive emails abroad

Dear Forum

I have been out of the country in Japan for 3 weeks. I was unable to access my ntlworld emails (webmail) - error 403. I can access them now I am back in the UK. I have neve experienced this problem before and for many years have had to travel frequently for work and family in Europe and SE Asia.

This caused considerable difficulty as I had to get my son to log on in the UK and forward them to a different email address.

Any ideas please why this happened and what can be done about it for the future.

Kind Regards, Philip Meager

The 403 Forbidden error message when signing into your webmail account usually means that the there has been an issue with VM authenticating your email details. In your case it could possibly be down to the wifi network you were using in Japan.

When you get that error, the way to resolve it is to generate a new  Mail app password for that  email account.

To do that sign into the My Virgin Media (MVM) Account for that email account https://www.virginmedia.com/myvmo2

    Then

    1. Select Account Settings
    2. Select Identity & Security Settings
    3. Select Manage your products
    4. Select Manage email app password
    5. Click on the blue button 'Get New Password'

Once you have generated the new Mail app password VM staff often advise to then leave it about 30 minutes before trying to access the webmail account again.

Based on previous experience following this steps seems to resolve the 403 error.

Or move your mail to another non ISP tied mail service?
