Secondary email no longer workin

Hi all,

I occasionally access an old blueyonder email account using POP3 SMTP via Outlook. The address is <my-name>@blueyonder.co.uk. This still works fine.

My wife uses a secondary email for this account (<her-name>@blueyonder.co.uk), with its own password.  Also using POP3 SMTP via Outlook. As of today, this secondary email account has stopped working. I've not changed any settings.

Can anyone please advise? I've spent all morning searching the community.

Thanks in advance.

Zoid

There is no such thing as secondary mailboxes any more.  All mailboxes now need a 3rd party email account to allow access. These changes have been put in place as Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is now required. Just as a side note, when logging in to My VM, you will need to use the third party email address as the username and your original My VM password.

Also note a "live" paying VM account is required to use the mail server now.  If you are no longer a paying customer the mailbox will be purged after 90 days.

      Hi again.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Can you explain what do I need to do next?

I've logged into my mail.virginmedia.com, and in the Accounts section can see both the original blueyonder account details (still working) and my wife's (not working).

The message displayed in the latter is:

The entered credential or authentication information does not work or are no longer accepted by provider. Please change them.

Thanks again. To confirm I'm paying for my VM account.

      Hello Zoid,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your secondary email account.

Have you tried to add a new 3rd party email address to be used as the account login to be able to access the secondary email account? If you haven't done this yet. Please try to sign in to My Virgin Media here with the username(Secondary email address) and password, you will then be prompted to change the username to a 3rd party address and follow the confirmation steps once this has been completed you should have webmail access to the account.

      Kind Regards,

      Steven_L

AFAIK, you need to sign into "My VM" with your new 3rd party email address for each mailbox.  This should allow access to Webmail and the relevant mailbox.

If using an "app", i.e. any mail client, e.g. Outlook, you also now need to generate a new four word "app" password for the mail client to use.  So, the username would be the old BY address with the new four word password.  It's all become very confusing really.

Personally, I would move the mailboxes elsewhere to a non ISP based mail server.  If you read the threads in the Email section, you can make your own mind up where this is heading.
