Ntlworld.com email account removed by Virgin

Ok so to start off with I do work in IT but am completely confused by this whole thing.  Last week my .ntlworld.com email stopped working (I do have a current contract with them for phone, broadband and TV and this is the primary email address associated with the account).  Anyway after a couple of days and some very limited help from Virgin I had to setup a separate outlook account and use this.  They talked me through how to access my emails via Virgin Media but I can't get them on my phone either using the mail app or the outlook app.  My new outlook email account is supposed to be used to access my virgin media email but I just can't work out how I should set this up.  I have tried and tried and have now wasted countless hours on this and really need my emails on my phone.  Could someone please help me with what the settings should be pls?

Thanks - i have read through this a few times.  So is my VM email address the one that ends .ntlworld.com or is it the one that ends .outlook.com as they told me it was the outlook.com one.  However I just can't get the settings right!

Use your ntlworld email address and VM app password when you are setting up an email client on a device.

Use your outlook.com email address and VM password when logging into VM webmail

If you are setting up an email client on a new device, you have to use your ntlworld email address along with an app password generated from within 'My Virgin Media'. Process to get the app password is explained below along with the required server settings

    https://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/manage-email-settings

in the sections 'How to set an app password to use an email app' and 'How to connect your Virgin Media email address to another email app'
