NTLWORLD being removed

interesting, I now log in to my VM account using an outlook email address, but the old ntlworlld.com email still exists and although I no longer use VM email, it gets a lot of scam email so I  have recently used email filtering to block all unknown scam emails, which works well.

I do hope the VM email is eventually retired, as there is no way to delete out an unwanted primary ntlworld.com email  as it not allowed under the rules unless you cease to be a customer.

My present ntlworld.com email has had 10 data breaches and 5 leaked passwords and my name leaked in the past but is secure now

It is also interesting that in 2003 I changed my email address prior to Virgin taking over  (was NTL) when it was allowed to change email in those days, my old ntlworld.com email address is no longer valid now, it may have been hacked back in 2003 or thereafter or re-used, and had a different female name listed, not mine, an IP address in Italy, 2 leaked phone numbers and a leaked location.

I now use gmail. outlook and yahoo as my main free emails and all seem to work well.

No-one is doubting that the support guy said that.

However, the point is that the staff on the 150 line do have a history of making things up, or perhaps I should say more diplomatically, "giving incorrect information".

Just one example: for years the 150 customer support staff  have been telling customers with virgin.net email accounts that those email accounts are now managed by TalkTalk but it's just not true.

The fact is that Virgin sold their ADSL network to TalkTalk years ago but VM kept responsibility for the associated virgin.net email accounts and you would think VM support staff would know that.  However, they still kept advising virgin.net users to contact TalkTalk.  So either VM staff were not aware of the facts or they said it to fob people off.

Quite so. But the constant problems of access to emails, demonstrated daily on this forum, will also encourage users to go elsewhere for their email service. 

NO, they are NOT announcing it, simply doing it with no warning. They just deleted my primary email account last week. TOTALLY stuck now..

The fact is that the only email accounts that VM are closing are those that are no longer linked to a live VM broadband contract.

However, many people are having issues accessing their VM email accounts due to the major changes VM recently made to the security of  their accounts.

Those changes mean that:

• if you are accessing your VM emails via an email app, such as Outlook, you now have to use a "VM mail app" password rather than the password you use to access your My Virgin Media (MVM) and Webmail account.
• also, you now have to assign a non VM email address to use as the username when accessing your Virgin Media  MVM and webmail accounts.

VM did not publicise those changes and they have  definitely created a lot of confusion among their customers. As an aside, from posts on here,  it seemed that many customer support staff on the 150 line were unaware of those changes when they were first implemented.

On top of that there is also the "403 Forbidden" error that many people are getting which seems to be caused by issues with the security of  VM email accounts.

If you are still a VM broadband customer and your Ntlworld account is linked to your current contract I think it is likely that whatever issues you are having are down to effects of those security changes rather than the email account being closed.

If you post details of  how you access your VM email account and the error  messages you are seeing someone here could almost certainly offer you advice.

On the other hand I would not blame you at all if you decide to stick to using your non VM email account.

As jpeg1 has intimated, the issue is whether you still have a Virgin Media Broadband contract/account.

If you no longer use VM broadband then your Ntlworld email account is no longer linked to a live VM Broadband contract. That means that your Ntlword email account is at risk of being deleted  by VM at any time so you most certainly do need to move to a new email account as soon as possible.

However, if your Ntlworld email account is still linked to a VM Broadband contract then it is your choice whether you switch to using Gmail.

I hope that makes sense.
