Left Virgin 8 years ago, virginmedia.com email still working. How do I close it down?

As per the title.

I left Virgin Media about 8 years ago, but today I had an email forwarded from the associated virginmedia.com address. It was from a forum I'd registered with using that address, and the forum is one that seldom sends emails.

So it appears the virginmedia.com email address is still active. I'd assumed Virgin would close it and set up forwarding to my current email address, which is how the virginmedia.com address ended up with me today. Now I want to log into it to see what else has been going there, check it hasn't been hacked or anything and close it.

I've set up my new 'virginmedia02' ID, but it won't let me access my email because I don't have a current Virgin account (and won't have - I'm no longer in the UK). 

Virgin customer service (oh, how I remember them of old...) are elusive and guarded by a phalanx of useless AI.

Any thoughts on how I could check my old virginmedia.com email account?

    Welcome to the Community, and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re experiencing with the email address of your former account with Virgin Media, As goslow has advised, as you're no longer a Virgin Media customer you wouldn't be able to regain access to your account. We would only be able to delete the email address from our systems. Would you like me to arrange that with our support team?

    If you are no longer a VM customer, you won't be able to regain access to the email mailbox.

    Best you will get on here is that a VM person should be able to put in a request to have it deleted.

    A VM person should reply in due course. Normally a few days but some VM responses seem to be taking longer at present.

    I'm another former customer (from years ago) who wants their email deleted. Can someone message me privately to take it forward please?
