Keeping emails after cancellation

I'm leaving Virgin Media soon and understand that after 90 days my email address will be cancelled. This means that I will no longer be able to send or receive emails using this address and also will not be able to read existing emails online. But presumably the emails which have already been downloaded to my machine will not be affected and I will be able to access them in the regular way???

Depending on how your email client is connected to the VM mailbox, and what email client you are using, the email messages on your device may be stored in different ways and locations on the device.

If you simply want to archive the messages for storage, have a look at this past topic

Whichever method you decide to use, I would suggest undertaking any backup task quickly as topics on here quite often seem to state the mailbox can become inaccessible faster than the 90 days quoted.

Hi - I have the same problem. Would using Apple Mail solve the problem?

Nothing to do with Apple Mail, or any other mail client.  The important thing is where your mail is.  You need to download all the emails to your local machine.  Once the mailbox is closed on the VM server, your mail will be gone from that source.  You need to ensure you have downloaded a copy to your device for safe keeping.  You should also setup a new mail account with e,g, GMail and start forwarding all your VM email to this new mail account from now on ASAP.

  • Hi - how did it go? I’m in the same position, and I’ve been trying to get my head round this. I have used Apple Mail for all my virginmedia emails. And my only questions whether they will disappear from Mail once Virgin turns off my account. Also a bit worrying if the don’t let me have the 90 days.
