Deleting a redundant NTLWorld email account

I have a redundant ntlworld email account which I do not have a password for any more.  The account has been hacked and contacts are receiving emails from me that I have not sent.  I cannot find out how I delete this account, which I no longer need and have not used for a number of years.  Can anyone help?   I am not a Virgin Media customer
