Contacts receiving strange emails from my Ntl world email address and I can’t change the password

My contacts are receiving weird emails from my ntl world address that I haven’t sent.

I’m not able to change my password on the internet because it says my password isn’t recognised. I’m not a Virgin Media customer any longer so  I can’t get online to change anything yet my ntl world email account has been working on my iPhone and iPad but won’t let me change the password.

Can someone help me please.
Thanks

    There are two issues:

    1. The sender of these emails probably does not have access to your Ntlworld account. It is relatively easy to send an email that appears to come from an email address even if you do not have access the account.  Spammers do it all the time. Very often these spam emails just contain a link or have attachments. If these emails are going to your contacts it does suggest that may be the case here. Spammers make the emails appear to come from you to trick your contacts into opening them. On no account should your contacts open the links or attachments to these emails.
    2. If you are no longer a VM customer then all VM can do is to delete the email account. They will not be able to reset the password.

The other bad news is that if these emails are being "spoofed" then even deleting the email account will not stop the spammer sending them.

Having said that, one of the Forum Team (VM staff) will contact you via this thread. They will be able to get this email deleted for you to put your mind at rest.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. There are emails that I want/need to keep. Is my only solution to forward them to another email address or print them? Is there no way of migrating them over to a different email address?

Sorry, the way I read your first post was that you no longer have access to the Ntlworld account.

So, are you able to access these emails using the email app on your mobile devices but not via the VM website? If so that suggests that VM have already begun the process of deleting your Ntlworld account.

As far as I know there is no way of  downloading emails from the IOS Mail app but you could try doing an online search for ways to download / backup emails from whichever email app you use. If all else fails then printing off or forwarding the really important emails is the final option.

Remember though that, which ever email service you use, email accounts are simply communication tools. None of them can be regarded as reliable online storage services. Emails can disappear or be deleted unexpectedly for all sorts of reasons. So you need to have some backup procedure in place for your alternative email account to keep all your emails safe.
