I don't think anyone can have any complaints with your etiquette but, to be honest, you might get more constructive advice here if you could clarify and expand exactly what you mean when you say that your Blueyonder email account "has effectively give up & become unrecoverable."
If you can supply the error messages you are getting which lead you to believe the account has become unrecoverable it is possible you may get some advice as how you could go about recovering it.
I can answer your question "what becomes of the numerous important accounts (eg isurance) I have with that email address &, as often a not often username?"
Those online accounts, with the insurance broker or company for example will continue to work in conjunction with the relevant password for that online account until that organisation:
- sends you an email, a confirmation of a purchase, or an update to your contract for example. Needless to say you won't receive it and you will then be stuck and you'll need to contact them by phone or some other way.
- the company needs to send you a verification email to your BY account for some reason, such as if you want to update your username to your Gmail address for example. You will then be stuck and you'll need to contact them by phone or some other way for advice on how to get your details updated.
Having said that, some companies allow you to update your email address in their records without sending a verification email, They rely on sending an email to your old email address advising that your email address has been updated in their records and to contact them if you did not make that change yourself.
I am not sure if that helps at all.
