Account Login - Email Login

As a customer for over 25 years - I find this very frustrating to try to explain !

I can no longer use my VM email address to log in (as a user name)

I've had to change this to an email address that isn't from VM - or in my case "@blueyonder.co.uk"

I find that there is no easy or obvious way to differentiate logging in so that I can access emails for any other mailboxes !

"Support" (via phone) suggested I use a gmail account - which worked alright to get one set of email !

Totally confused now... on how to log in to get my other two mailboxes !

25+ years ago it was so simple - worked perfect. Using a user name set up (by VM), suffixing an undescore, then a number.   example   USERNAME_1    -or-   USERNAME_2   -or-   USERNAME_3   , etc.

My question is simple - how do I now access my other 2 ... let's call them "mailboxes" ???

My silly quest began 12-12-24

I should add - I get ALL my email flawlessly using client software. But on occasion I need to use what I call "web mail"

  • Hi MPR, thank you for your post.

We're sorry to hear about the problem you're having and that you feel this way 😔

Advice on how to manage your e-mail accounts can be found here. You'll need to click on the dropdown arrow next to "How can I manage email accounts I've added", within the "FAQs" section.

If you're continuing to experience the same problem thereafter, please pop back to us at your earliest convenience.

    Regards,

    Daniel

Daniel, I realise your trying to be helpful with your words - and links !

      - Those "FAQ's" do not apply !

To put my issue another way - I can log in to get my email (ilogically using a third party email address as a user name) - I can use that mailbox fine.

If I try to log into any other mailbox - there isn't a facility there to diffarentiate as to which mailbox I want to use.

That simplicity has gone - as they have opted for supposed security over functionality and forgotten long standing users have this need.

An extremely silly analogy would be -

Log into your bank using the email for your "jigsaw fan-club email address" and we'll only let you look at a tiny section of the website that's of no use to you (it will be the section that we think you want - with no thought on our part what-so-ever) !

Strange... after writing that stupid example - I realise that it really does describe the situation quite well  🙂

MPR  In summary, as explained in the article referred to above each vm email address Username_1, Username_2 needs a different third party email address to be set as the login username for the account.  You do this by signing into the My Virgin media account for each vm email address with the current username and password eg Username_2 and follow the instructions to change the username.

      Hi Graham A

      You've nearly grasped it -

Using VM's latest idea ....  this is what they're asking (without saying it outloud) "Log in to get your emails using someone elses email adrress - and we'll show you an email mailbox... not the one you want - but we'll show you one."  -and-   "You can't look at your other mailboxes - we don't know how"   LoL

Actually, on the contrary, Graham_A has, really has absolutely grasped it - alas it’s not the way it works now. Yes, in the past  it did work the way you described, fine. Now, as per your nomenclature, Username_1@.... and Unsername_2@... have little if any connection with Username@....

They are regarded, now, as if they were entirely individual accounts, and now need an individual third-party email address to access them going forward. So yes, if you have/had seven ‘subsidiary’ email addresses, tied to your main/primary account, then, alas, yes you do need to create seven third party email addresses and associate them with each address, and change the logins etc......

Yes, I know, it’s pain in the proverbial - but it is what it is. So the choice is yours. Either you jump through the hoops, or work on the basis that there is no long-term future for VM email and start the process of moving away.

I would strongly suggest the OP takes steps to move the mailboxes away from VM to a non ISP tied mail service.

      Hi Adduxi -

I've been thinking the same for a number of years - afterall "they" show their amature side more often than I care to rememeber - with a "technical support" that defies defintion for both words !

I moved my mailboxes some years ago. Yes it was a complete pain, but I’ve never looked back. I can move ISP when I choose etc.  IMHO the mail service from VM is only heading one way ….

    As @Adduxi said.

VM email just gets worse and worse. You would be far better off with one of the many alternative services, and VM would be glad to close one more account.

  • This just strikes me as utter B*ll*cks.

I have to log use a gmail email account to login to a VM email account. ?

and as I have 10 VM email accounts I now have to create 10 gmail email accounts, just to use VM email.

    Unbelievable.

It should be pretty clear to everyone by now that VM wants to get rid of its email service. There email has been getting steadily more difficult to use and less reliable.

By insisting on third party emails, VM have ensured that they can still contact their customers even after they have shut down their own emails.

Anyone still using VM email should be starting to move their email to another service now, while it can be done in a carefully organised manner, rather than under pressure when they are suddenly given a deadline as so many users were given very recently.

Alas, yes that is exactly what you need to do! Look don't blame me, I'm just telling you what it is.

Consider using he following workaround until you have migrated away from Virgin Media Mail.

Gmail ignores full stop in username so johnsmith@gmail.com can be addressed as:

This is more than enough address space to handle this issue; just remember to keep a record of which gmail address was used with which Virgin Media account.

        Hi   🙂

Yeah - I have been doing the same, unfortunately.

I gasp before saying that I now have 18 gmail email accounts - at least temporarily !

And if I could : I would like to apologise to google (if it even mattered to them).

What a sad day it is to say that VM has been "out-smarted" by microsoft.

Really pains me to say that.

But what the hey ... in this case : Microsoft wins - VM are now losers !   (See how I worded that ... ha ha ha)

Quite simply, VM want all their customers to be using non-VM emails so that they can still be in contact with them when VM email ceases to exist.
