A Virgin Media Email Address used through the Outlook.

I've just had to change computers due to a disaster and I've been adding my old NTLWorld.com email addresses to Outlook (the programme, not the website or app) and it always takes some effort...you have to do it manually to be able to connect it to your datafile, etc.

Anyway, I have one single Virginmedia.com email address and on my last computer, it was absolutely attached to the datafile.

Now though, it won't accept the imap.ntlworld.com the imap.virginmedia.com or either smtp.  The email address is still valid by the way and I can login to the website version.

Does anyone know if the settings for VM emails have been changed, or if there's a setting that I'm forgetting?

deltaflyer Setting up an Ntlworld email address on a new computer is one of the actions that trigger the latest security changes made by Virgin Media.

You will need to generate an app password for the Ntlworld email address as these are required when using an email client such as Outlook to access the account.  The process of generating an app password will also force you into changing the username for the Ntlworld address to a third party email.

VM have recently changed the log in requirements for accessing VM Mail via third party apps.

If you change the password for the account in My Virgin Media > Account settings > Account details you will not be able to use the new password to access the account via an email client. Email client access now requires an app specific password which can be generated in the MyVM > Account Settings > Account details > Mailbox App password management

I'm not sure if you understood...my NTL ones are up and running and I find that you'd tagged me because the email came through fine!  It's the one specific Virginmedia.com email address that I'm struggling with.  I can use it through outlook, but only by creating its own separate datafile...where it used to be incorporated into the same datafile as the NTL ones.

Like I say, the NTL addresses are working perfectly and sharing the same datafile, but the VM will not join.

deltaflyer  Thanks for the clarification.  One possibility is that the ntlword email accounts are set up in Outlook using the POP3 protocol and therefore all point to the same outlook .pst datafile.  If the virginmedia.com address is set up to use IMAP it is likely to be pointing to a different outlook .ost datafile as IMAP accounts cannot share the same outlook datafile.

You could try deleting the virginmedia account from Outlook and then add it again manually selecting the POP3 and choosing the Deliver new messages to existing datafile option.
