A strange thing has happened

Starting yesterday I've been unable to send emails from my Gmail email to Virginmedia emails BUT I can send them to my NTL email address and other gmx email account.

I've NOT tinkered with any of the settings, it just just started by itself.

Can someone please help me?

Brain_Dead  "unable to send emails from my Gmail email to Virginmedia emails"

I have just tried sending a test email from my Gmail account to my virginmedia.com email account and also to my ntlworld.com account.

The test email arrived in both my email accounts but:

    • the email to my Virginmedia address was in the Spam folder rather than the Inbox.
    • the email sent to my Ntlworld account arrived in the Inbox.

A bit strange because I would have thought VM would use the same spam filter on incoming emails for all their email domains.

Have you checked in your the spam folder of your Virginmedia account?

If  emails sent from Gmail are not arriving at all, are you seeing any error  or non delivery messages in your Gmail account?

Just tested from a Gmail address to a Virginmedia.com address and a blueyonder.co.uk address.  Both ended up in spam folder.

      Headers contained 'Precedence: junk'

Is this VM retaliating for Gmail treatment of blueyonder emails!?

Graham_A   Gmail address to a Virginmedia.com address and a blueyonder.co.uk address.  Both ended up in spam folder.

I have just tried again sending from Gmail to an Ntlworld address and it seems that emails from Gmail accounts are now being flagged as spam.

Firstly I use Ritlabs The Bat! email client from which I use NTL, Virgin, GMX and Gmail accounts.

      Secondly: I'm hopeless!

I pretty sure for the NTL email address if anything arrives which NTL thinks it is Spam it will prefix the message header <SPAM>

I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen for the Virginmedia account.

I don't get a non delivery messages in GMail.

As a matter of interest, today I'm able to send from GMail to Virginmedia. It seems to be corrected.

I've noticed you are VERY HELPFUL.......  Today I managed to login/create a Virginmedia account on my android phone with the app and by logging into my account using the PC.  I prefer the PC because of my failing eyesight.  Although I created the account with Virginmedia the primary account is NTL. I had NO difficulties.

Years ago when things were easier, I created sub email accounts with separate email addresses and passwords, IIRC I created them through the primary account?

Would you please be able to advise me how I access these sub accounts to check if there are any SPAM mails or be able to set those accounts to enter <SPAM> at the beginning of message which it thinks are suspect.

      TIA

Brain_Dead  You would need to sign into each account via mail.virginmedia.com to change the spam settings.  In order to do this you need to first sign out of any VM account that you may already be signed into.

When signing into webmail you need to use the VMO2ID relevant to each additional account together with the account password.  Once signed in click on the cog icon to access settings. Click on email from the drop down list at the left of the screen and select Spam settings.  If you want spam to appear in your inbox but tagged as spam then select the option 'Flag a message as SPAM but deliver to inbox'.

AFAIK, the old sub accounts are no longer listed under a main account.  For every sub account, you will now need to create, wait for it, a new VMO2ID account.  Yes, it's not any easier or better but that, apparently, is progress ...  Personally I would strongly suggest you migrate your email away from VM to another mail provider that is not an ISP.

Could you please give me some recommendations?  I'm reasonably pleased with Ritlabs The Bat! having purchased it from the beginning but when I've considered moving to another provider/client it looks like rocket science trying to move well over a thousand emails to another client, so I've stuck with it.

I'm NOT sure but NOT too long ago Virgin was saying that they were no longer going to support email.  I don't know if it's happened, if it has I suppose Virgin would like to phase it out for everyone else.  I use one of my NTL accounts for anything connected with money and it would take me a lot of time to reset all those accounts/subscriptions and I don't know of a quicker way to do it.

Brain_Dead  I think you have misunderstood.  Ritlabs The Bat is an email client - a piece of software used to access your various email addresses.

The suggestion to 'migrate your email away from VM' was to use an email address provided by an email service provider not connected with your internet service provider.  The would mean one provided by Gmail or MS Outlook amongst others.  Virgin Media stopped issuing new email addresses in May 2022 and there is much speculation in this forum that they will eventually get rid of their email service completely.
