Price hikes will dictate change

Like many of you I have been a user of virgin services from the very early days of cablecoms, ntl and through the time I haven't had much to moan about service wise, the occassional drop out here and then.

Frustrated with the ever increasing price hikes in and lack of return which would make it a bareable practice to continue on with, presently on 150mb basic tv, the phone service is not used my wife and I have mobiles and we never get through our monthly allowance on these, so its pointless having a home phone nowdays. And we are charged the princely sum of £76 pmth which in April will push it to over £80 I'm afraid its just not worth it anymore, its not value for money when comparing it against other competitors.

We have tried calling, going down the retentions route, only to be fobbed off with you can have more speed, more tv.. we work, are not gamers, so this is a pointless upgrade, by the time we sit in front of the tv its a few hours then bed.

Whilst virgin are advertising looking to attract a new customer base, they would do far better looking after the one it already has, people that have stayed and paid! It would be cheaper for us to leave and come back in a couple of years as a new customer.

The options we have looked at below, offer more for a lot less, so needless to say we will be changing.

Sky Stream, Essential TV, Netflix & Superfast Broadband  150mb
vodaphone 910mps  April with skystream
city fibre - vodaphone
Three 4/5g hub

Hd tv ariel install

Only 90 days to be classed as a new customer again if you can use a 4g device, or you could cancel and put into another person's name to be a new customer. You just have to time the latter correctly to avoid break in service.

  • It sounds like you've reached a tipping point where loyalty no longer justifies the rising costs. Many long-term Virgin Media customers feel the same frustration—being priced out while new customers get enticing deals. The lack of real value in upgrades that don’t fit your lifestyle (like faster speeds or extra TV channels) makes the price hikes even harder to swallow.

Your alternative options look solid, especially with Sky Stream and Vodafone’s high-speed broadband offerings. A 4G/5G hub could also be a good backup if you’re in an area with strong mobile coverage. Have you already booked an install for a new service, or are you still deciding?
