Moving From VM

Hello Guys,

After 19 years from the old days off ntl, i think i have done my life sentences with NTL aka virgin media, now i am out of contract my bill was £97.00 and going to rise to £137.00, it's time to move on,,,

My reason for opening this discussion topic? obviously after the 19 years, your email inbox become a personal reminder of how life is and everyone knows you friends and business, all have known me ie business such as PayPal and the many more like them, now i have decided to move away from VM i seriously omg very seriously do not want to lose all my emails going as far back to when NTL were alive and kicking, i have so many contacts in my ntlworld.com email address.

The switch from VM to the other provider is current not in effect because the deal was only done a day ago, i was told by a VM agent i have until the 13th of November before i lose all access to my VM account, reason i again i am here wanting your help kinda urgently..

Because i do not want to lose all my emails (How can i retrieve all my emails data)?? to manually go throw all my emails and recovery the senders address to update them individually before the cut of date my account will be terminated will take forever, i do not want to risk this..

So any help in advance please advising me to keep my emails before my account is closed would be very welcomed..

Thanks everyone..

Regards

Dark

This program gets regular recommendations on here

    https://www.mailstore.com/en/products/mailstore-home/

Worth mentioning though that this is just an archiving program (not a method for permanently storing important documents and data). You are simply migrating a historic collection of emails from VM servers into a historic collection of emails in the Mailstore program.

If you have anything in your email archive that needs to be permanently kept, you need to extract that from your collection and process it into a permanent file format which you can back up regularly or print out hard copies if appropriate.

Ch33rs goslow, i will give it a bash in for a penny kinda thing, unfortunately for me it's only compatible with widows 10/11 i'm still on my old loyal windows 7, but my cellular phone samsung s10 lite should be capable , it mentioned something about Thunderbird  which i read something about this i installed it on my phone, and i think this "mailstore" can work with Thunderbird"

A Central Archive for All Your Emails , Internet mailboxes such as Gmail or Yahoo! Mail

It says also the above, maybe Thunderbird might be a solution? because mailstore definitely isn't going to work on my old os. and it's free the only sad thing with free your limited at 295.00 € i think i'll definitely try the free version on my phone..

It's going to take some time to download 19 years worth of emails.  I'm not sure if using a phone would be ideal?  It's a pity you can't get Mailstore running.

If you have another non ISP tied mailbox, then I would also suggest you setup a forwarder now on your NTL mailbox.  You have 90 days after you leave before the mailbox is purged.  I've did this some time ago with my NTL mailboxes. Yes, it was a pain, but well worth it in the end.

Unfortunately, extended support for Win 7 ended in Jan 2020 so you may struggle to find current versions of programs that are backwards compatible for obsolete operating systems.

  • I'm assuming you've put in your cancellation.

Are you not tempted to wait and see if retentions get in touch and offer you a better deal?

  • Hi Dark,

    You have my sympathy.

I've been with VM since the Blueyonder days and have had a few occasions to think about jumping ship.

I got a message about renewing contract so I had a gander and decided to do it last month.  BUT.  When I looked at the email about my next bill, it had gone from £75 something to £115 something.

Wow, you're having a laugh aren't you VM.

I eventually got through on the phone and quizzed the bod who answered why they had hiked up the price.  It's because I hadn't renewed my contact. Bolox I said, as I have the confirmation emails here in front of me.  He could see no record of the contract being renewed. After some chat, I extracted a better deal, faster b/band plus Sky Sports so I can watch Newcastle United away games. And I'm now paying £ 72 something for 2 years.

I hope this gives you hope to negotiate a new deal.

It's a mistake to keep your emails with an ISP, so act now. You certainly don't need all your emails, so start pruning. Then you can export it all to Thunderbird for free - but you'll need to have enough storage on your PC. Another option is a web client like Outlook Web (OWA) or Gmail (I prefer Gmail) but note that the there are limits to free storage, e.g. for Google it's 15 GB shared across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. I pay Google £1.59/month for 100 GB.
