Will a new router change existing IP addresses

Hello,

A really basic question I'm afraid. I don't really understand routers etc.

I'm upgrading to Gig1 fibre and a new hub (hub 5?) is being sent on Tuesday. My question is, when I reconnect everything, will the hub change the IP addresses used on my existing equipment? Such as laptop, Firestick, Nvidia shield, smart plugs, google nest etc. Or are the IP addresses that they use determined by the actual equipment itself? For example my laptop is connected to my Shield via the existing hub with ethernet.

I realise I will probably have to log them onto the new router with a new WIFI code,

Does that make sense?

  • Shouldn't be a problem devices will get a new LAN IP's on reboot

To avoid having to re-connect all your devices, it is possible to configure the new VM Hub to use the same WI-Fi code as the current VM Hub.

Its is best to never use the default SSID the idea is to come up with your own SSID that you then setup on any new router
