Change Mac address on router

Hi

I have a GLiNet1800 router and if I change the MAC address setting on it to Random I can't connect to the Virgin network. If I put it back to factory default it works.

Is there any way to change MAC addresses on my router from the default and work with Virgin?

Thanks.

Manish

  • Why would you want to ?

Besides I don't think the CMTS is setup to give out new WAN IP's when your Router will be constantly revolving it's MAC address.  It would require the Router to be switched off each time with a few minutes between MAC swaps, to allow the CMTS to "forget" your previous MAC address from the bridged VM Hub.

Also at a very quick look at the GLi manual suggests this is for LAN ports which may be connecting to a Hot Spot and need a Private address?  Either way, I doubt if it's going to work as you want it to?

  • Thanks. I was testing a system and was a step in troubleshooting but it wasn't the problem. Good to know it's possible though 🙂
