WiFi pod causes cracked socket

I’ve had a Wi-Fi pod upstairs for about a year and it has done a great job of boosting the signal around the house. However tonight I noticed quite a loud buzzing / fan noise from the pod. Worried about safety I turned it off and unplugged it from the wall, and noticed it has caused a massive crack across the socket, rendering it highly unsafe. I’ll have to call an electrician and get them to install a new socket. I’m not sure what to do about the pod. Obviously don’t want the same thing to happen again!

  • I also have this issue. Brand new socket in extension cracked. Tried the pod in a different socket in case the socket had been damaged by something else and that one is now showing a crack to. Very disappointing.

      Hello Suze2,

Welcome to the Community, and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your pod at the moment.

I'd be happy to take a further look into this for you; however, I would need to confirm a few details via private message. Please look out for my message, and we can get started.
      Kind Regards,
      Steven_L

I would suggest not trying any more sockets. Please share some photos of the affected sockets and of the pod. How long have you had the pod?

They are less than 12 months old I think.

      Seriously...

...perhaps try the defective VM Pod in every socket of the house and see how long it is before the Fire Service are needed !

Thanks so much for your helpful reply. Having had building work going on it is not inconceivable that the socket had been knocked by something. I found it hard to believe that the issue would be a WiFi pod that I would expect to have been fully safety tested. Alas that seems to be the case and I’m happy to tell you that my house is still standing and my new smoke detector was not put to the test. So I don’t think I need to follow your advice and try it out in all my other sockets. I hope you are able to offer more constructive advice or comments in the future.

Do share photos of the damaged mains socket and the failed Wi-Fi Pod.

The VM Pod is the property of VM, they may ask for it back at any time in the future and attempt to charge a fee if it can not provided - so hang on to it.
