wifi in garage

Hi all,

I currently use a virgin wifi powerline booster in my garage to get internet, which works ok but only getting speeds of approx 10-20mbps. It works using the electrical circuit from the house which runs up to the garage. Would the wifi pod boosters be a better option ? The garage is about 15m from the house so I guess there would be about 20m between a pod in the house and the one in the garage. I'm on volt so could get the pods for free. If it's worse, could i go back to the powerline booster? The pods would definitely work better for around the house, I have another powerline booster upstairs in the house but again, speeds aren't great on 2nd floor. 

Appreciate any advise.

    You need to run the Connect app and do a wifi survey of your house.  No one here can give a definitive answer.  Pods work by retransmitting the Wifi signal from the Hub, they do NOT boost the signal.  If they are too far from the Hub, they will not work. This is just a fact of wifi.  If you really need a strong signal in the garage, I would suggest you run a Cat 6 ethernet cable to the garage, and put a wifi access point on the end of this cable.  Don't forget cable can be run outside, so it doesn't have to be trailed through the house.

    Pods are not the solution in the way you are thinking. For a pod to work it needs to be mid way between the source and the target machine, which probably in your would be in the open. The really best option would be to run an Ethernet cable from the hub to the garage, very easy to do or get an electrician to do it. Then in the garage you could connect a pod to this cable to give WiFi. The pod in this case is not acting as a WiFi extender (picking up one WiFi signal and transmitting another), but acting as a WAP (WiFi Access Point) and can be in the same location as the target device. If you need any hardwired devices in the garage you could attach a cheap, about £15, network switch and wire the device and pod to it.

    We finally did as Adduxi and Tudor are suggesting to improve the signal into my son's distant  bedroom.

    It is certainly the way to go.  We used Car6 exterior grade cable and connected the WAP that is cited in my sig.  He gets full speeds on his wired gaming PC and console as well as on wifi on his phone
