Getting wifi to my Garage
Hi - I am in the process of getting solar panels installed. The battery, inverter and EV charger are all being installed in the garage which is about 10/15m away from the house (unfortunately the Virgin Router is as far away as it could be!). I invested in a couple of TP link Extenders to try and get me to the garage but can’t get WiFi signal. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? Ps it is a new build house. Thank you.
You could try a couple of powerline adaptors to get an ethernet cable out to the garage. From there you can use a switch and a Wifi AP. However depending on the electrical circuits, it may or may not work. You don't need fast Wifi for those items, as it's only comms traffic mostly and the odd firmware update.
Best however, is to run an external grade Cat 6 ethernet cable from the house into the garage. This can be direct buried, so no conduit is necessary. The solar installers should be installing a CT clamp on your main circuit board, so unless this is in the garage, they will be running cables to the house anyway? The Cat 6 can be exited at the Hub location and run to the garage wholly externally, so have a think about a route. The maximum cable run for Cat 6 cable is 100 metres and try to get solid copper core, not the cheaper CCA (copper coated aluminium)
