Wifi booster/pod

Hi, I've recently changed from Sky to Virgin Media and have the mega fast 1.1gb internet package. However, my devices upstairs in my house only pick up 70% wifi strength and are running at 150mbs so no where near the max speed. I want to order a booster or pod to increase the wifi strength upstairs but don't seem to be able to do this from any of the virgin apps.

Can someone tell me how best to order one please.

You can get Pods if the Wifi speed is less than 30Mb as shown by the Connect app.  Note the maximum Wifi speed VM guarantee is 30Mb.  If you want to use the full capacity of your 1Gb connection over Wifi, invest in your own Wifi 6 or 7 equipment, making sure all of your devices can use this specification.

  • Hello Supersa1nt,

Sorry to hear of the wireless network issues experienced impacting the signal strength within your property, we appreciate you raising this via the forums and welcome to the community.

Based on the speeds you have advised and our Wi-Fi max policy the speeds don't qualify for a Pod as they are over the 30Mbps minimum. We have these tips available to help with broadband issues:

  • I'm a network engineer, you won't get 1gbps over WiFi, you need to hard wire your devices into a spare port on the back of the hub using an Ethernet cable, then you'll have a good chance of getting 1gbps speeds. Even then it's not guaranteed.

150mbps wifi is actually pretty good. The 1.1gbps can be shared amongst several wifi devices, theoretically you could have 7 devices running at 150mbps before your Internet gets saturated, but wifi is a shared medium so the rate will go down as you add more devices anyway.
