Wifi 6 on 1gb connection?

Writing for a friend of mine

She has a 1gb broadband package with Volt. She has atrocious wifi speeds on the first floor of her house. There are four people living there, all of them are gamers. She has a hub 4, so no wifi 6 connections. She just spent the best part of an hour talking to support and was fobbed off with just one pod and was told that they wouldn't update her hub.

Is she entitled to a wifi 6-enabled hub with her 1gb package? If so, how can she get one without going via India again?

The Hub 4 and 5 are the two Hubs supplied by VM for 1 Gb Tier at present.  There is no entitlement to WIFI 6. However with the 1 Gb tier she can get up to 3 WiFi Pods at no extra cost.  Personally the “gamers” would be better off serviced by a switch and cables.

You are primarily paying for your speed TO the hub, not for WiFi performance from it. Most ISP provided routers are bog standard level kit. Particularly if you have gamers in the house, you need to look at least at a third party, top of the range router that can handle the high throughput, & put VMs router into modem mode. Directly wired connections are however preferable.

Four gamers on Hub4 Wifi?  That's never going to work.

If you can't wire them all by ethernet, at least run one ethernet to a more central position and fit a decent WiFi access point

Invest in a suitable Wi-Fi Mesh or some Wi-Fi APs.

Wi-Fi 6 is intended for Airports & Conference Halls with many hundreds of active devices.

VM don't care about wifi which makes me think why they even try

VM would make more money supplying a modem free then cost to you a 3rd party router or get your own

Just how much money is being wasted with router mode and pods that don't help

Any serious gamers use an Ethernet connection. 4 at once would tax any WiFi system.
