Which hubs are currently being installed?

So ive ordered a VM package with 1Gb fibre. My house is routed with ubiquiti dream router 7, switches, AP and cameras. Id like to know which hub is currently being installed as i’ve heard that the 5x doesn’t do modem mode. It’s a fresh install as VM have just finished laying the fibre on the road.

Be wary of the term "fibre".  If it's a XGS-PON Nexfibre area, then yes, it will be a Hub 5X with no modem mode.

However, if it's an older VM area it may be full co-ax cable, or the hybrid RFoG and the Hub could be either Hub 4 or 5, both of which have modem mode.

Hopefully, if it is a "brand new area" then it's the Nexfibre connections, but sadly no modem mode.

      On our wavelength

I'm in a XGS-PON Nexfibre area and my 5X has modem mode - I've been using it successfully for about 6 months now.

  • Damn. Well thats getting cancelled. Ive seen some workarounds but im not sure how reliable they are. Guess its back to talk talk then

Indeed jpeg1    However, they are not using the Hub 5X, and I believe you can use your own router from the ONT ...

Yup this might be the glint of light at the end of the modem mode tunnel. The only thing is giffgaff will take a few months to roll out across the UK.

I do have a ONT that my talk talk is coming through. Could i ditch the the 5x hub completely and go straight to the dream router?
