what kind of attenuator needed with high downstreama nd about normal upstream

anyhelp is appriciated; Hub3 is on modem and I have a mesh system Deco. The Hub3 was replaced 2 months ago and the outside cable was repalced as well after engineer visit.since then the internet drops out everyday for a couple of minutes or sometimes the hub needs to restart.last week switched to router mode to see if there is any improvment but nothing happen. I saw that the downstream is high in value which is between 18-20 dbmv. I think this the issue.called virgin to ask them to send me a 10db attenuator but isntead they compinsated me and told me that I can buy myself.I had an 8db attenuator at home , so after trying it , the downstream values went down by to around 11-14dbmv but at the same time upstream went down to around 34 from 37 before putting the attenuator. and after removing it the downstream went back high but the upstream stayed low. the question is what attenuator shpould I buy and where from and does it matter a specific brand or any brand like from amazon ?I`d appreciate it if you send me a link. please see the attachments when putting the attenuator and after removing it.

with 8db attenuator:

after removing the 8db:

thanks for your help

I have not come across a situation where VM have advised customers to self supply any aspect of the coax cables or the splitters or the attenuators ( of which there are many types ).

Book an engineer visit to resolve the super high Downstream power, you have enough signal there install a multi tap splitter for an apartment block !

Note a Wideband Attenuator of say 12 dB will cause the Downstream signal from the street cabinet to reduce by about 12 dBmV,  but the Upstream signal will rise by a similar amount.

Fitting about 20dB of attenuator might appear suit the Downstream, but the effect on the Upstream would leave the VM Hub working very hard to reach the street cabinet.

This does not look like a situation for a self help fix.

A major discrepancy in levels suggests that something needs adjusting in the street cabinet. Don't fiddle with attenuators, report a fault and request a free technician visit.

        Hi Hub3

        Welcome to the Community Forums.
Sorry to hear of your service concerns.
We are unable to support third-party network in-home setups and would advise against adding your own cabling or connectors.
For us to be able to run further checks on our side, are you able to remove your third party equipment and place the hub into router mode, so that we can check it on our side?

Alternatively, if you prefer at this time, you can try the troubleshooting steps the Community members have advised to see if you can locate the issue with any of your third party equipment.

Keep us posted with how you get on.

the issue is; i dont have any problem with signal and have a 360 MBps download speed on my laptop right now. its just the drop outs( which happens daily ) for signal while you are busy with something online.actually they( virgin ) replaced the outside cable and the sent me the new hub3 and I could easy replace it. I will book an engineer visit as per your advice because they dont seem to get the issue when called them.thx

With low upstream and high downstream levels the only way to fix is to be moved to a different tap on the street cabinet. Basically your signal is too good, maybe you are very near the street cabinet.

Thanks for all replies. Virgin booked me an engineer, replaced the hub with a new one and put a 16db attenuator and replaced the isolater ( a connection between the cable who comes out of the wall and the inside cable). The down stream levels came down to 3-5 and the uppper stream went up to around 48. It’s been 2 days without dropping out , fingers crossed. The engineer still wants to replace the piece of  cable which comes from the outside box to the inside wall. I told him let’s wait and see.

    thx
