What does "Connected to: Other" mean?

Looking in the settings of my VM Hub 4, in the Connected Devices list...

I noticed that a device I am having issues with has "Other" listed as what it is "Connected To"...  Others state my network name and either 2.4ghz or 5ghz...

So, what does "Other" mean here? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Hi louispercival,

Thank you for your post and welcome back to our community forums. We're here to help.

We're sorry to hear you're having a bit of trouble with your connection with one of your devices. What device is having issues? As Client62 has mentioned, is it possible to provide a screenshot to help illustrate what you're seeing?

    Thanks,

Ah yes, so sorry!  Screenshot attached, from the Connected Devices page of the VM Hub settings...

Notably, it's just the far right column stating where the device is connected.  I have some that state 5G, some that state 2.4G - all name my home network - and a couple stating Ethernet.  All that makes sense.

But then more than half simply say "Other" and I am wondering what that is, if it's not my 5G or 2.4G network?

Is "unknown" a device that you have Paused ? i.e. a device that is not connected to your Hub ?

  • Sorry, but I have no idea what these devices are.  I have a bunch of smart home devices, including many WiFi smart plugs - and so just assumed all these Unknowns were those little devices?

Hi louispercival, thank you for your response.

Have you tried following the latest advice provided by Client62? If so, are you any further forward with this?

      Regards,
      Daniel

  • Just did, sorry, wasn't;t tagged. Going to look at this when I have a chance.

Curious though, why would my router even display anything other than just my 5ghz and 2.4ghz networks? What are these devices connected to?

      Hi louispercival,

It may be something to do with the device itself, or something like a VPN if you knowingly use one.

Let us know how you get on.

      Thanks,
