Virginmedia packet loss to MS sites

Hi,

I hope someone can help here.

Since Saturday morning (11/11/2023 am) , here in the UK i am getting the screen freeze when i access MS azure portal etc.. when I do pings to specific MS sites - such as microsoft.com i get packet loss, and when I ping the azure MS portal (13.107.246.64) - i see similar packet loss.

Further to that i have run a WinMTR to 13.107.246.64 and it has indeed shown high packet loss as shown below.

If I ring up VM about this, i feel i will be wasting my time, as how do i explain all this to them; they will just say switch off modem and switch it back on etc.. which has all been done.  the problem is clearly not at home but from HOP 8 - 9  below. i.e. between

telw-ic-5-ae0-0.network.virginmedia.net

and

virginmedia.ier03.lon32.ntwk.msn.net

Ping statistics for 13.107.246.64:
Packets: Sent = 554, Received = 522, Lost = 32 (5% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 276ms, Average = 19ms

Does VM technical support read these forum posts and will they pick up this issue and look at resolving it?

Sincere thanks for your help, advice and guidance on this.

    hm, this can be related to some issues some of games have.

    do your packet losses happen every 60-90 seconds?

  • Hi,  the packet loss, is more frequent than every 60-90 seconds.

    e.g. just pinging microsoft.com even gives a ping drop every 11-14 pings

    Ping statistics for 20.112.250.133:
    Packets: Sent = 87, Received = 82, Lost = 5 (5% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 121ms, Maximum = 132ms, Average = 122ms

    many various games topics reporting same - issue with VM connection to Azure I presume.

    how to report? ;/

  • yes it is to microsoft.com email addresses such as *.msn.net and also to azure , such as azure.portal.com all showing packing loss.   this only started for me on Satuday 11th Nov.  how do I report such things to VM, as ringing them up i feel will be a fruitless and pointless exercise that will only test my patience (which i have none).

  • MSFT engineer here. I found that Virgin Media traffic is having issues with all Azure-hosted properties as part of an xCloud investigation here: https://www.reddit.com/r/xcloud/s/MKFoPbe9Kj

    I've escalated this issue internally with the right people. Will post an update here once it's resolved.
