Virgin Hub won't work in Modem Mode

Old thread I know, but now I'm having the same problem. Ethernet connection no longer detected when in Modem Mode. Powered off & on to no avail. Sometimes it detects & when I try & connect to the modem to check status, it fails to log me in correctly or the status info are all blank, then it loses ethernet connection again.

Been doing this all day. Ended up having to reset it to work as a router & the port has been tested & working. So something has happened with the modem in modem mode, because I've tried going back a few times into modem mode & problem returns. And my modem just did an update last night, woke up no internet.

I've reset it a dozen times

    Does that mean :

    1) Pressed the RESET button for 60 seconds.

    2) then kept the Hub 5 powered on until the factory reset completed.

  • try connecting to different ports, modem mode only work in port 1, personally I have a 16 port 2.5 gigbit managed switch with EEE turned off by default, connected to the Hub5 2.5 gig port and distribute from that.

If you run any VM hub in modem mode you can only connect ONE device to only one of the ports on the hub. You cannot connect a network switch, normally you just connect to the WAN port on your router.

lets say you like to view traffic on the WAN can a switch do that yes you simply VLAN two ports untag and mirror the port from hub to a PC NIC adapter

Another case is a poor mans firewall by ACL before it gets to a router like port 445 even if VM do block them but I have seem this allow once!

Make sure your Router has EEE disabled on its WAN port
if you are connecting to the Hub 5 via the 2.5GB/s port.

Hi, the modem is currently in its default wifi router mode with a solid white light & most services I use work. It just has some mini incompatibilities with my 3rd party router related to domains.

If I connect & switch it over to modem mode, it goes through the normal process of light cycles & finishes up with a solid green light. However, the same ethernet connection says it has no internet. I'm also unable to connect to the modem using 192.168.100.1 either. I've powered it off & on a few times. However when I unplugged it completely & left it for 5 mins & plugged it back in. It did say for about a minute I had internet & it let me log into the modem, however as soon as I clicked on modem status, it showed a blank box & then I lost connection again.

Nothing to do with the ethernet port as it works in router mode. Swapped out cable to be sure to no effect. It was working & I was in the middle of a game & then I lost internet. I thought it was just a typical router disconnect or update, but half hour later still no internet, went to bed & still no internet. The only way I get it to work is in router mode, it refuses to work in modem mode at all & I need it to work in modem mode.

As for my 3rd party router, nothing wrong with it or it wouldn't be working with the hub 5 in router mode. And I've tried connecting directly & through my 3rd party router with the hub 5 in modem mode, makes no difference.

Something has happened to the hub 5 modem mode. I've reset it a dozen times having tried putting it in modem mode just as many times. Its broke I'd I'd like a replacement.

When in modem mode connect a laptop or similar to check if you get broadband. If you do, connect your router and reboot it and it should be fine.
