Virgin Connect App

Hi,

The Virgin Connect App is listing an iPhone that I don’t recognise. The phone concerned is not connect to my hub or WiFi and there is no ip address listed for it. Could this be that the the app is picking up a phone in a neighbouring house? I’ve paused the connection just in case.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Did you ever have an iPhone at some stage?  AFAIK the connect app uses a backend database and this may be an old connection showing up.  Have you tried clearing the app cache and/or reinstalling the app?

It may also be a fluke MAC randomisation? I doubt if it is a neighbours phone btw.

Many thanks for relying. We have 2 iPhones in the house. Both are correctly listed. We have some old phones that have been switched on since the Connect App was installed.

what’s a fluke Mac randomisation btw?

    Thanks again.

Most modern device use a MAC randomisation for security, it just picks a random MAC address for the device, so a specific device can't be identified by it's MAC address.  So, you can't rely on this method of MAC addressing, for example, blocking access to your Hub. You may block a device, but the next day it will have another MAC address, and therefor will be able to bypass the previous days block.  Makes sense?

Many thanks. It’s got the name QLOCOM which seems to be a WiFi extender perhaps?

      Hello BarryT38

Thanks for posting your Connect App and device query via the forums, we understand the confusion this can cause.

The Connect App draws information from the Hub and connected device history, it will be that this device at some point has been connected to the Hub and won't be from a neighbouring property. Do you have any iPhone users in the property either currently or in the past?

The VM Connect app either generated total paranoia about your own "unknown" devices or enables the customer to cause complete chaos by blocking their own EV Charger or wife's office laptop or its VPN or the Wi-Fi heating controller.

To avoid these self created issues, uninstall the connect app !
