Unable to run test as no connection to hub

As the title states I have the connect app and I have ran various tests around the house and get a fair connection on the stairs but as soon as I go 3ft in to either of the bedrooms signal from the hub disconnects and I can’t connect and I can’t run the diagnostic test as it just says something went wrong, so I can’t order a pod to see if this corrects the problem but I’ve had to result to connecting my tv to my phone hotspot to watch anything

any advice would be most appreciated

thank you in advance

Run the test where the signal is lowest before it drops out altogether. Also note that when you do receive any pod(s) they should be located at a midway point between the hub and where you want the signal to be stronger (if you place them where there is no signal then they won't connect)

  • That’s what I’ve done as it’s literally 3ft from the top step to the door frame which is what I don’t get as it goes from fair to nothing at all and midway is a landing where there is no plug socket so I’m a bit stuck for halfway really

This also means that you are now aware of the many places in your home where VM Pods or Wi-Fi Repeaters would be totally useless and must not be placed.

You may be better considering network cable connected Wi-Fi Access Points or even Powerline Extenders so you can get the Wi-Fi signal right to the locations needed.

Folks have a very unfortunate habit of referring to VM Pods as "Wi-Fi boosters", the only thing they boost is the amount of Jitter and Latency experienced i.e. they are bad news for MS Teams and Gameplay.  VM Pods may extend the range of coverage if the property layout and construction are suitable, but whatever the Wi-Fi input speed available at the location of the VM Pod will be more than halved on the output side.

  • Is having new sockets installed something that VM can do for me does anyone know as don’t really fancy having loads and loads of cables running round the house would rather have 2 new sockets installed in the front bedrooms as cables can be ran up the front of the house ?

Yes, in theory they should.  They use the mains wiring (perfectly safe) to carry the data, both Wifi and cable, from the Hub to your device.  The performance of these units rely on the state of your house wiring, but in general they work well.  Saves any messy work getting cables installed. You can also get the same units as "pass through", these have a socket on the front, so you don't loose the use of a socket when they are plugged in.
