Unable to connect HP Printer to Hub 5

Hi,

Recently, I have been given a Hub 5 router by VM where I am facing issues connecting my HP Wireless Printer B110 to the router.

I have done the basic troubleshooting steps of switching off/on the router, printer and followed all steps mentioned in HP Deskjet Printer set up issues | Virgin Media Community - 5463280

I have now created 2 bands 2.4 and 5 with separate SSIDs as mentioned in the link above. The WPS option doesn't work as it fails to detect the router. When I use the setup wizard on the printer, it does find the 2.4 GHz " named with _2" SSID on it, and says Connection successful but I see that the Wireless button on the printer has a blinking blue light after this. When I check further on my printer screen, under Wireless section, it says "Connecting..." and then "Not connected" soon after.

When I access the Hub on 192.168.0.1, I see all devices connected and have a non-zero lease time against them, except the printer which shows Unknown and says connected to the _2 SSID.

Could someone please suggest what can be done to get the printer working wirelessly?

Many thanks,

Y

  • This printer looks to have 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n.
Any device that support 802.11n aka Wi-Fi 4, supports WPA2-PSK.

What can be the stumbling block is the Hub 5, everyone wants one until they
discover the Wi-Fi 6 configuration of the Hub 5 is inoperable with many single band
2.4GHz only IoTs / CCTVs / Wireless Printers. Yes there are 100s of posts about this.

If you can't get the printer working, it will work with your laptop / PC using a USB cable.

Plus if buying a replacement, buy a printer/scanner with a network port easier to connect and so much more dependable.

The joys of wifi VM got into....bet they wish they stuck to ethernet.

If your Printer is old it might not support WPA2 I'm not sure if the hub has a setting to go lower.

You could get a new printer or get a new router and put hub in modem mode

That's an old printer and no longer supported on the HP website.

Looking at the manual <Here> the instructions there are for MAC, and also for Windows Vista, 7 and XP.  Have you tried disabling the computers firewall and AV?

It might be best just installing the drivers  and then connecting with the USB cable(page2)

If that works then try changing from USB to a wireless connection (page8)

OR try connecting by pressing the WPS buttons on the printer and the hub 5.

I'll try the USB option and revert (just need to find the cable as the printer is almost 14 yrs old and have never used this cable so might need to order it separately now!).

        Thanks.

  • Thanks for the prompt responses on my post. Appreciate it.

Yes, I have tried all steps connecting via WiFi including the WPS option. Tried disabling firewalls too but it doesn't work.

I checked the Hub 5 only has WPA2 and WPA3 whereas the HP printer supports WPA. Could that be the reason as the Hub 5 in this case is not backward compatible with the printer?
