TP Link Power line Adapter won't WPS pair with Virgin Hub

Devices: Virgin Hub 3 and TP-LINK WPA4220

The power line Adapter works fine for Ethernet however the built in wifi range extender won't connect to the Hub 3.0 with WPS.

I know the WPS isn't faulty on the hub as the tv box was set up using WPS yesterday and I know the TP-LINK isn't faulty as it worked a couple of days ago at my old place.

Is this a known issue with TP-Link extenders or am I doing something wrong?

    Hi Dannyboy96,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our forums 🙂

I am sorry you are having issues with your power line adaptors have you tried the troubleshooting tips here.

  • Hi, I had a similar issue and this worked for me:

I followed the basic TP link instructions but it didn’t work with the Virgin Hub 3. So I went to the Virgin hub settings page:

    http://192.168.0.1

Advanced Settings > Wireless > WPS

At the bottom it has a button to Add WPS Client. I pressed this while doing the TP link procedure and it worked.

    Hope that helps someone!

Don’t use WPS.  Use the admin console on the TP-Link.  It’s all in the manual and easy to do.

  • I have the same issue, where WPS fails to connect to a new TP link WPA4220

I have connected the Ethernet and the Hub 3 sees the TP link

I can connect to the settings on the 4220 with a web browser so clearly the LAN side is working, however when I use WPS button on the box and the 4220, then it times out and even when I go to the hub 3 menu and say "add a client" the same thing happens.

The Hub 3 is sat about 2 metres away from the 4220 and both the powerline ethernet and the receiver are plugged into the same power as the router.

I have no idea how to connect the WiFi other than using the WPS, mainly because none of this is explained anywhere

We have a pair of WPA4220 we have them as IP 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3 to make access to their admin menus easy from a computer on the the LAN of the VM Hub.

TP-LINK WPA4220 can not be connected to the VM Hub 3 via the WPS buttons on either device.
The reason is the VM Hub 3 and the TP-LINK WPA4220 are both Wireless Access points.
WPS is a method to connect a Wi-Fi client like a mobile to an Access Point.

If you wish the WPA4220 to offer the same SSID / Password as the Hub 3, connect to the admin menu of the WPA4220 and set the SSID / Password in the Wireless Settings and Wireless Security menus.

  • Thanks I presume it will use ethernet then transmit/receive via the 2440, so that I don't need to run around changing all the other devices SSID and PW

When connected via the browser you customise the TPlink to have the same SSID and password as the Hub 3. This will allow your devices to work seamlessly.
