Sudden Slow WiFi Speeds

Hi. Over the last week, the WiFi speed of my broadband has dropped significantly. I am on Volt 350, and I've run the WiFi strength tester in the VM Connect app. It shows that WiFi speed in the living room, which is where the Hub is situated, is very low. I was literally 4ft from the hub. I've tried rebooting the hub, but no difference.

I also ran a test at Samknows.com, which showed similar results.

  • Samsung Galaxy S20 is dual band so should be much faster.

The next question is what is the Hub 4 doing on the 5GHz band, i.e. is that 5GHz band actually broadcasting despite what may be seen in the Hub 4 menu.   The  "Wi-Fi Analyser (open source)" app for the S20 should show what is happening on both bands.

if the 5GHz band is not showing up, try the VM Hub's 5GHz band set on manual channel 36 or 44 which should enable it to start immediately.

Check the security is WPA2-PSK and the mixed mode included N & AC.
Use of the older WPA-PSK can stop devices from connecting.

Perhaps also, have the 2.4 & 5GHz bands recently been split and the devices only have Wi-Fi profiles for the slower 2.4GHz band.

We operate our VM Hub with Smart Wi-Fi Off
    and on manual channels for both 2.4GHz ( 11 ) and 5Ghz ( 44 ).

The only problem of manual channel is VM Pods,
they may expect / require Smart Wi-Fi on.

We do not have VM Pods, we have 2 Wi-Fi Access Points also on manual channels.

Thanks. I have one pod, but it seems to be working okay, so I'll leave it for now.  If I have any issues, I'll switch back to Smart WiFi.

      Many thanks for your help.

@Client62  Thanks. All my devices had dropped onto the 2.4Ghz band, I have no idea why. I configured the 5Ghz as you suggested and that has sorted the problem, so thank you very much.

Do I just leave it set to Manual now, or should I set it back to Smart WiFi?

The Wi-Fi speed test looks like a mobile that is connected on the 2.4GHz band.

What make / model of mobile is that ?

It's a Samsung Galaxy S20, which normally gets around 130mb. All the devices in my house are experiencing the same issue.

As @Client62 has hinted, check whether your devices have dropped from the 5GHz to 2GHz band.
