SSID keeps turning on by itself

I use a different router instead of Virgin media for Wi-Fi. I haven’t got my super hub in modem mode as I still use its Ethernet ports.

I turned off SSID from the super hub settings so they don’t appear on available Wi-Fi networks but for some strange reason it return. I have also received automated emails from virgin to say that they noticed I haven’t got smart Wi-Fi enabled and so they automatically switched it back on and that’s when I also happened to notice the SSID that I deliberately turned off has been switched on returned… several times

Anyways to prevent this?

Yes, when the VM Hubs are in Modem mode the internal W-Fi is disabled.

In Router mode we are never free totally from the tinkering hand of VM's Wi-Fi policy.

If you have the VM Connect app installed you will see constant attempts to re-enable
Smart Wi-Fi so as to support VM's nasty Pods.

Operating a similar system to you, we have the Hub Wi-Fi enabled and have two Wireless Access Points,
all SSID / Passwords are set to be the same, we do not have the Connect app installed on any device and we are not seeing any pressure or messages suggesting Smart Wi-Fi needs to be re-enabled.  Think of the Hub Wi-Fi as being a free Wi-Fi AP.

Run in modem mode, it overcomes a lot of problems. If you need extra ports, get a cheap network switch to use off your router, a 5 port one only costs about £15.

  • It sounds like something to do with Virgin "enrolling" more connections in their smart diagnostics as reported on ISP review the other day. Still, turning WiFi back on is a bit frustrating when you've specifically turned it off.
