Speeds being capped on machine

I had VM 1G installed today and was getting 1G/s download on my machine with a cat 7 ethernet cable. Randomly my speed just started to be limited without me doing anything to 100mbps. I've checked and on windows my ethernet cable is set to auto negotiate but when i manually try setting it to 1000gbps it doesn't connect to the network. Is this limit below that is shown on the router page configurable or is it a hard limit somewhere?

    That's usually due to a faulty ethernet cable. Have you got another one you can ry?

    It also seems odd that the NIC/network adapter  on your PC doesn't connect when you try and manually set it to 1Gbps.  Have you got the latest drivers installed?

    What speed  is showing to the hub and PC via the following link?

    Have you tried a different ethernet cable?

    Also try a different ethernet port. You are currently using port 1 - try port 4 if you have a hub 5.

    You should also log into the hub settings (192.168.0.1) and go to Advanced settings > Tools > Network Status and under the Configuration tab check  the Max Traffic Rate for Primary Downstream and Upstream Service Flow.

    A usual suspect is a defective network cable causing the connection to repeatedly de-rate from 1000 to 100 Mb/s.

    Try a different network cable, look for at least a CAT 5a cable.

  • I plugged the cable into a different computer which had 1GBPS ethernet cable and it ended up getting limited to 100mbps. Not sure why i was able to use 1GBPS for a few hours until the cable broke.

    The initial connection of 1Gb/s is being de-rated to 100Mb/s after a certain error threshold is exceeded.
    Has the second computer just confirmed that the same (suspect) cable results in the same 100Mb/s de-rating ?
