I have this same problem. Virgin support is ridiculously poor. I've spent hours over the past few days trying to resolve this. I hope your router is fixed by now.

Sorry to hear you're having an issue with the red light on your Hub
I'd like to investigate this for you and arrange a swap.In the meantime can you make sure the Hub is well ventilated and away from any direct sources of heat.
