New contract, new hub ?

Just renewed my contract but dropped TV and phone and just have broadband which I have increased from M250 to the M500 package. Will I be sent a new router? I currently have a V3 and tests show it recieving around 549Mbps but only giving out 164Mbps WiFi.

The Hub 3 is used for contracts up to 600Mb.   It will cope with the 500 Tier.

Run a wired test on this site and post the results.  Run the FULL tests please, as this will show all the information.    http://www.samknows.com/realspeed

This will show the speed VM are delivering to your Hub.  Any decrease over Wifi is up to you to resolve, as VM only guarantee 30 Mb over Wifi.

  • This is the best I can do, off the TV as I don't have a working laptop currently. Connected directly to the hub.

There you go.  The Hub 3 is getting the full 500 Mb Tier speeds as noted above.  Any Wifi issues will be down to the specific devices being used.

      Hi robertpayne757,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

The 500mbps is the speed delivered to the Hub.

There are so many things that can influence a WiFi connection that are beyond our control, some of which include (but are not limited to) a fish tank being in the same room, walls being built with concrete instead of brick, the number of devices connected and device capability.

Please have a look at the troubleshooting and advice here: https://virg.in/wifisos

The Hub's location could also be causing the coverage problem, so we do need to check the positioning of it. Can you please ensure the following.

      •    It's out in the open if possible.
      •    If positioned near the TV that it's next to it, not behind it.
      •    It's away from large bodies of water (e.g. fish tanks).
      •    It's away from baby monitors, cordless phones and radios.
      •    It's away from microwaves.

Think of the Hub as a radio and WiFi as the sound - the further away you are from the radio, or the more obstacles that are in the way (walls, electronic devices, etc.), the quieter the radio and, in turn, the poorer the WiFi connection.

If that doesn't help, if you have the Hub 3, Hub 4 or Hub 5, you can download our Connect App which will allow you to scan areas of your home and will offer help. You can view more information on that here: https://virg.in/connectapp

We also have a WiFi guarantee, there is more information on that here

If you have any further questions, please pop back to us and we'd be happy to help.

    Knows their stuff

Unless you haggle during re-negotiation then no. New customers get a HUB5 with improved WIFI 6 AX for that tier (assuming clients can use WiFi 6). Old customers keep their old kit unless it's haggled.

The Realspeed Device figure of 91.3Mb/s means
the TV has a 10/100 Mbit network connector.

The 164Mb/s seen over Wi-Fi may also be the limit of the device,
especially if this is a similar figure to what was seen when on M250.
