Is the rollout of 2 GPS happening?

Hey everyone,

I've been on a 1Gbps connection with Virgin Media for a while now, and I'm curious if 2Gbps speeds will be available (or are currently rolling out) in Windsor and Maidenhead. I know that Virgin Media has been trialing multi-gigabit speeds in some areas, but I haven't seen much information regarding our region.

Additionally, does anyone know if XGS-PON is being deployed here? I would love to find out if Virgin Media is upgrading the network to support even faster speeds.

If you have any insights—whether from personal experience, Virgin Media announcements, or updates on network upgrades—please share!

  • Hi sl1m_tc,

Thanks for your post and welcome back to our community,

I'll send you a private message now so I can take some details. I'll then see what I can find out about any plans for Gig 2 in that region 😊

Please look out for the envelope in the top right of the page and pop back to me when you can.

It is likely 2Gb & symmetrical will only be offered on XGS-PON connections. In existing network areas this will depend on whether the local network & backend systems are updated once the service is launched (rumoured to be March).

XGS-PON is not capable of carrying V360/V6 TV services, so you would have to switch to Flex stream boxes if you want to keep TV on the account.

If you see a new cabinet next to an old one then it's a sign that you've got fibre installed for XGS-PON. Rollout depends on a new ordering system being ready.
