HUB4 Misbehaving after midnight VM issue

Looking back this is a known VM issue. I need help, albeit VM claim  that the issue is 'solved'.

This problem NEVER happened with a HUB2.

In the middle of last night VM did something, which seems to have involved a forced reboot of the VM HUB4 Modem which operates in modem mode.

This morning the HUB4 shows Green but there is ZERO communication between my router and the VM Modem/Bridge. No WAN IP address shows on my router. I can connect to my router on 192.168.0.1 and everthing EXCEPT the Internet is functional.

After two hours ( true ) on the phone to VM there was no resolution. VM was reporting my HUB4Modem on diagnostics as "Th WIFI Hub cannot connect to our network" which is a meaninglessly stupid message.

Under instructions from VM the HUB4 was rebooted ( switiched on and off ), and the problem was NOT resolved.

I then suspected a cable problem between gthe HUB4 and my Netgear Router and replaced with a new cable. No change.

I then disconnected the HUB4 from my Netgear Router and did a direct ethernet connection to my desktop into the HUB4 and type 192.168.100.1 - ZILCH  none of the Ethernet Ports on the HUB4 would respond.

So my take on this is that sometime in the night VM 'played around' and created this disaster. I now have effectively a dead HUB4 in Bridge Modem Mode and I cannot even get into the hub to deal with it. A VM tech is due over tomorrow morning.

This is the second HUB4 to have failed.

From posts two years ago it seems this was a known and repeating fault and there seems to be no known consisgtently workable solution.

ANY IDEAS ANYONE

Factory reset the Hub 4 it should come back up in Router mode.

From there you access the Hub 4 menu at 192.168.0.1 with your laptop
and switch the Hub 4 back to Modem mode for operation with your Netgear Router.

  • Thank you.

    I suspected as much.

I will report back. I am almost in tears with VM incompetences.

  • Nope .. factory reset doesnt work - never comes out of flashing white 'mode'. Whatecer VM did at midnight they trashed the HUB4.

I am so deeply deeply fed up with VM. All I want is for it to work. Roll on tomorrow's tech.

Thank you and bookmarked for future reference.

I despair with VM: why is this information deeply buried and not given out in the hub documentation?

My HUB4 has now been flashing white ( so to speak ) for over an hour. It obviously is knackered. Roll on my third Hub4 tomorrow.

Sometimes how the VM Hub is reset matters, try :

        1) Press RESET and Hold for 60 seconds
        2) Leave the Hub 4 powered on to perform the reset.

This may differ from what VM have on their website, but less that 60 seconds can be a problem with many Hubs and powering off after pressing RESET can cancel the reset leading to a doom loop situation.

  • MY THANKS TO ALL THOSE THAT RESPONDED

The second tech visit sorted it.
As I finally worked out; VM in the middle of the stormy night ran software back at base which had deregistered the second Hub4 and put back registration for the first Hub4.
It seems I am not the first person (according to the tech); to whom this has occurred. But once the second box had been reset and re-registered, everything worked again. Tx to everyone and the second tech.

Thanks for updating the thread.  I must admit, it's not one I've come across on these forums before.
