Hub 5x WiFi to garden room?

Hi,

Firstly my knowledge of WiFi etc is limited so please bare with me.

I used to have sky broadband in the house then I had a cable ran down the garden into the garden room where i connected an old router in to have WiFi down there.

I have recently had virgin installed and they have given me a 5x hub.

I have connected this up in the same way and the Internet just drops out all the time.

So for now I've plugged the cable directly into the TV with an Etherley port so we can have a smart tv.

I've read about the hub 5x not working in "modem mode"?

Basically, is there a tried and proven way to be able to use the ethernet/cat5? Cable to get the WiFi into the garden room aswel?

Apologises for the long post.

Thanks

Something like this will do the trick, TP-Link TL-WA1201, search amazon.

Install it in 'Bridge Mode' connect it to one of the ethernet ports on your 5X router. In order to keep things simple, change the SSID (WiFi name & Password) to be the same as the 5X router. You may need to connect it to the 10gbs connector on the 5X hub, but try the other ports first.

  • I believe that you have to set the garden room router to "access point" mode.

Hub5x has no modem mode yet.  So you need to plug the ethernet cable from the garden room into one of its ethernet ports. Then try setting the old router to Access point mode and trying again.

What make model is it ?  You may be better off investing in a new "wireless access point " designed for that job alone (no routing needed).

It's just an old sky router.

Would a wireless access point into ethernet port work then? I'm confused as to what the hub 5x can and can't do

The old sky router would need to have

    1) a 192.168.0.xxx IP that does not clash with the VM Hub which is fixed at 192.168.0.1
    2) the Sky Router would need its DHCP disabled.

      Is that easy to do?

Is there a product I can buy that would do what I need?
