Hub 5 dc barrel plug specs

Hi, can anyone advise the specs of the dc plug for the Hub 5 please?

It doesn't seem to be a 5.5/2.1 mm or 5.5/2.5 mm

Thanks

Is there any clue printed on the PSU ?

If the details can not be verified, it may be simpler to extend the mains lead.

  • unfortunately not, and I need the dc plug specs (a mains lead won't do)

    Thanks

What is the model no. of the power supply?

Try a search on that and see if any clone devices which come up mention the barrel plug size.

You can sometimes get an idea of the inner pin size by testing the existing plug with some small drill bits to see which fit and grip well (while disconnecting first, of course).

Common types here, which you can cross check with your findings

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaxial_power_connector

BUT be aware, when using barrel leads/extensions, to check the current carrying capacity of the barrel plugs you are using. Many are just 2A.

I know this from experience when I replaced one on a laptop PSU (correct physical dimensions of the plug) but unbeknown to me was only 2A current rating, resulting in the barrel plug melting over time. I should have used the 5A equivalent plug (but these seem harder to come by).

      Thanks for that.

The complete model n. is: Sagemcom CS50001 Model: MS-V3000R120-03610

I can't seem to find any related dc plug info on the web.

The OD seems to be a 5.5mm but the ID is smaller than the 2.1mm

If this eBay advert is to be believed

        https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363926524433

        it quotes 5.5mm and 2.1/2.5mm

But the output capability is also listed as 3A. If you are extending the barrel connector cables, therefore, you should be looking at 5A rated connectors (which I found hard to get when I was repairing a laptop PSU).

Just buy a selection from Amazon and return the ones that are the wrong size.

thanks, but I need the female side of the connector to fit the dc plug, hence my question about its specs, because all the connector sets have the female side as the std 5.5/2.1, with various male plug sizes i.e. I would need the opposite and can't find it.

  • Extending the low voltage side is not good in my opinion. You will get some voltage drop depending on how much extra cable there is. Could be enough to cause damage to the electronics/cause components to operate outside specifications.

I would personally extend the high voltage side.

    Below 5.5 x 2.1mm connectors is 5.5 x 1.7mm, looking at the lack
of pre built extender cables in this size it looks to be very unpopular.

In less time than it would take me source a suitable DC extender cable, the mains plug could be removed,
cable threaded into place and plug refitted onto a mains extender cable.
