Hub 4 modem mode

Hi 

Ive had my hub 4 in modem mode for over a year with 250m package now without trouble recently after a power cut my tp link router connects but no internet and also tv box states no ethernet connection.Spoke to virgin who insist Im not allowed to use modem mode.After some discusion she finaly admitted it was a hardware fault and are sending a new hub 4 out but then stated it will happen again in the future,  surely this cant be right? I did ask about the hub 5 but got told that was only for Volt customers .

    See below, see note 1: 

    How to put a VM hub into modem mode:

    1) Access your hub on 192.168.0.1, sign on and put it into modem mode. On the Hub3 the bottom LED will change to magenta, on a Hub4 the LED band will be green, on a Hub5 the LED will be green. Best done from a wired connection.

    2) Turn off the hub and disconnect any Ethernet cables

    3) Fully initialise your own router or mesh master unit and make sure the WAN port is set to DHCP (for some routers or mesh this may have to be done in router mode before entering modem mode)

    4) Connect your router or mesh master unit to the VM hub with an Ethernet cable, Cat5e or Cat6, any higher specification is a waste of money. On a Hub5 use port 4.

    5) Turn on the VM hub.

    6) You should now be able to access the internet and the hub will now be on 192.168.100.1

    Note1: this only needs doing once for each new router or when VM changes your WAN IP address.

    Note2: If you have a Hub4 and your own router is NOT 192.168.0.1 then it’s possible that you can still access the VM hub on 192.168.0.1

      Thanks for the reply I've tried all of this seems the ethernet connections on the virgin hub dont seem to work in modem mode normal mode they work fine

        Try a 60 second factory pinhole reset as below;
        Remove any ethernet cables from the Hub and hold the pinhole reset switch for 60 seconds.  Do NOT reboot the Hub, just let it do it's thing. Note you will need the passwords from the bottom of the Hub afterwards, so make sure they are legible. NOTE this will remove any custom settings you may have set in the Hub, and they will all have to be setup again.

        The bit about no being allowed to use modem mode is incorrect, in all the years I've been with NTL/VM I've only ever used modem mode.   The only caveat is VM will not do any diagnostics when the Hub is in modem mode, they will insist it be put back to Router mode.
